Water. The source of every form of life, it is an essential component of every being living on the Earth and covers a good 70.8% of the planet's surface. We owe it the origin of life itself and today it keeps on being a precious and ultimate element for its industrial use as well. The presence of water in green lumber is most important too, so relevant that, in a few cases, it weighs more than dry wood itself. To dedicate this fourth issue of Woode to wood and water means for us in Bellotti to pay homage to what allows us to work, to study, to love, to travel... In a word: to live! We tried to deal with this topic in the widest and most various possible way: thus are born the interviews to Wim Goes, who designed a wood dwelling on Flanders waters, to the divers partners of Idra in Venice, who found in the Lagoon the only fourteenth-century galley existing in the world, to Roberto Guzzardi, who repairs Ligurian gozzo boats giving a new life to ancient seafaring trades, to Ercole Archetti, a carpenter whose family has been manufacturing boats for five generations, and to Thomas Meyer, who renovated a mill in Switzerland. But surprises and rarities do not end here. In this issue of Woode you will learn with the young, successful entrepreneur Christian Gasser what wooden shingles are, and you will discover with Fabio Lucidi that even in your garden is possible to build a wooden kayak; lastly, with Cesare Feiffer, you will get to know all the secrets about the wooden piles which have been supporting Venice for hundreds of years. I hope that, like me, you too will be intrigued by the matters dealt with in this issue and that you can enjoy a pleasant reading rocked by waves.
